Before you go: your dog can visit Fishkill Farms, but cannot join the apple picking

Apple picking sounds like an obvious autumn outing with a dog: fresh air, a basket and plenty of room. At Fishkill Farms, one detail changes that plan. Your leashed pet can visit certain outdoor areas, while the orchard and picking areas remain off limits to pets.

Fishkill Farms pet policy: leashed pets welcome in the courtyard, outdoor cider porch and grassy hill; pets excluded from the orchard, pick-your-own areas and Farm Store. Service animals have a separate policy. Checked October 9, 2026.

Where a leashed pet can go

The farm’s official FAQ, checked October 9, 2026, welcomes dogs in the courtyard, outdoor Treasury Cider porch and grassy hill area. Dogs must stay leashed and owners must clean up after them.

Where pets cannot go

Pets are excluded from the orchard, all pick-your-own areas, other food-growing areas and the Farm Store. Carrying a dog in a bag or backpack does not make the picking areas an exception.

The FAQ warns that arriving for a pick-your-own reservation with a pet who cannot enter the picking areas can mean being turned away without a refund. The farm lists a separate policy for service animals.

Choose the outing before the reservation

If your goal is an outdoor farm stop together, build the plan around the areas that welcome your dog and check what is open that day. If the main event is picking fruit, make a plan that does not depend on your pet entering the orchard.

For a group, decide in advance whether everyone wants to pick or whether a human and dog would prefer the permitted outdoor areas. That small conversation is much easier at home than at the check-in desk with a basket and an excited pup.

A courtyard visit and an orchard visit can be two different plans at the same address. Checking the exact activity gives you a much better answer than relying on a general dog-friendly label.

Fishkill Farms is at 9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction. Before booking, read the current farm FAQ and pick-your-own page for pet access, availability and that day’s arrangements. For more autumn options, see our Hudson Valley apple-picking guide.
