Pawsitive Spots Rescue of the Month: Meet Hank, a Little Hero! 🐾
Hello, Hudson Valley dog lovers! Happy National Pet Month! We are beyond excited to kick off our brand new “Rescue of the Month” series, and we have the most incredible, resilient little guy to introduce to you. Meet Hank!
Hank is a 4-month-old pup (born on December 20, 2025) currently looking for his forever family through the amazing team at Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County (CARE of DC) in Wappingers Falls.
Hank’s journey started out a bit rough. He was born at a shelter to a mother who had been neglected but remained incredibly sweet. Shortly after he was born, Hank and his whole family caught parvo. While his family members recovered, Hank developed an issue with his rear right paw. He began dragging it, which led to bleeding wounds.
Thankfully, when I saw him in the shelter like that, I knew I had to act. I officially stepped up to become his CARE of DC foster parent, bringing him right into our Pawsitive Spots family so I could help him heal.
After consulting with a veterinary neurologist, we learned that he has nerve damage and cannot feel his foot. The chances for improvement are low, but let me tell you a secret: Hank doesn’t know he has a limitation, and he certainly doesn’t let it slow him down!
To help him thrive, we do special exercises every day to get him stronger. He also sports a very stylish bootie that keeps his foot in the proper position. With his bootie on, Hank is just like any other joyful puppy. He runs, he plays, and he absolutely loves going on hikes! He has already conquered the flat, paved paths of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and explored a short part of the Appalachian Trail.
He is incredibly social, loves spending time with people, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Hank is living proof of the resilience of rescue dogs. He isn’t looking for pity; he is looking for an adventure buddy!
